It was simply a
continuation of regular e-mail reports on our ministry activities in
the Philippines to about 150 people at the time. E-mail has proven to
be fast, efficient and inexpensive. The list was made up of long-time
prayer partners and supporters of the Sutherlands as well as past and
present short-term mission volunteers. When I was diagnosed with cancer
what better way to get the word out for special prayer. The response
was overwhelming with almost 1,500 e-mails through April 2003 along
with hundreds of cards and countless phone calls.
My updates were
forwarded to scores of others who in turn forwarded to others with many
responding directly to me. This has led to the current list increasing
to well over 300. We only send updates and do not send SPAM or unsolicited
e-mail to our list. Nor do we make financial appeals or exchange this
list with anyone. To our knowledge each person receiving an update is
doing so because they desire to.
The updates are
very beneficial to me and have proved to be very therapeutic. Many are
reluctant to be candid about their terminal illness and prefer to be
private about it. I find that talking and even joking about it makes
those around me more comfortable and gives me the opportunity to share
about God’s wonderful love in the midst of trials.
These updates are
in chronological order. Some are short, some are long. It has all been
from my heart. Many have used them to share in a variety of venues.
You are free to download any of the updates and use them for God’s
glory.
