Dear Praying Friends,
Becky and I want
to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued prayers
for us. This has meant so much to us during this challenging time.
It has been about
two weeks since I finished my latest immunotherapy treatments and returned
home from the hospital. This is the first time I feel up to sitting
down at the computer to give an update as this last treatment was very
difficult. The first several days in the hospital I felt pretty good
and Becky and I enjoyed many visitors. Then I got hit hard with several
side effects including nausea, severe itching and other things I’ll
be gentleman enough not to mention.
On a recent particularly
hard morning after very little sleep, the Lord ministered to me through
Psalm 91, in particular verse 4, “He will cover you with his
feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness
will be your shield and rampart.” There are certain discomforts
in cancer patients – I loved the thought of the Lord covering
me with His feathers, as depicted in this beautiful Psalm. And how thankful
we are that it is not our faithfulness that shields us (as we have failed
many times), but it is His faithfulness.
What’s up
next? Tuesday, March 19th we head back down to Los Angeles for blood
work, CT scan, and a doctor’s visit. At that time we may be able
to see if the immunotherapy treatments I’ve received so far have
had any effect on the cancer in my lungs.
I don’t return
to Los Angeles for hospitalization until late April when I begin the
2nd course of treatment. This will follow additional blood work, CT
scan and a doctor’s visit on April 16th.
Again, thank you
so much for your prayers.
Under His Wings,
Doug Sutherland
